As an electrical engineer, Hafizuddin bin Gunodo bears the responsibility in ensuring Gemilang buses are operable and safe according to standards, before leaving the factory.
With his work as a project based professional, his responsibility as an electrical engineer includes developing electrical harness drawing, electrical equipment location drawings and schematics that adhere to the client's requirement for each project.
He also monitors the project for electrical work and checks all assigned installation and connection that is required for electrical function on the bus. In addition, he also programs the Electric Control Unit for some of the buses.
“I started with zero experience because the bus industry in Malaysia is very rare. So there was no opportunity to get such exposure. I’ve been working here for seven years now, it has been exciting because every day there is something new for me to learn.”
“I would have never expected to be working in this bus industry. This segment is niche in the Malaysian automotive industry.”
Hafizuddin shared one the most nerve-wrecking moment for him is when the fully assembled bus had to go through an inspection before being greenlit for operation.
“This is the stage where the QC team determines whether every feature of the bus is fully-functioning and according to the client’s requirement. When there is something wrong with one of the features, say the light indicator, I must analyse the source of the problem and troubleshoot it quickly in a very limited time.”
Some of the projects that Hafizuddin has worked on are KL Rapid Bus, Dubai double deck and single deck bus, Singapore LTA DD bus, Hong Kong project and Uzbekistan Single deck bus.
“Because most of Gemilang’s projects are for international clients, I rarely get to see the products up and running in public. However, there are times where we assemble buses for the local market. These are the projects that fill my heart with joy because I get to see our hard work roaming the streets with pride.”
