Our History
1989
Gemilang Coachwork (“GML”) was established in a humble rented workshop at Tampoi, Johor. The main business activities were the assembly of school and factory buses.
1994
4 acres of land in Senai Industrial Area was purchased and a larger factory was built to increase the production capacity.
1995
Implementation of aluminium bus body manufacturing technology.
1997
The factory was expanded progressively with Malaysia as the primary market.
1999
Officially entered the Australian market, with annual sales of up to 100 units.
2000
2002
Collaborated with Mercedes-Benz to supply 350 units of Semi Knocked Down (“SKD”) body kits for the Vietnamese market.
2005
Began collaboration with Regal Motors Limited – an authorised dealer of MAN in Hong Kong. Through this partnership, Gemilang has delivered more than 500 units of Completely Built Up (“CBU”) buses including single city buses, double deck city buses and coaches to Hong Kong.
2006
Collaborated with Scania and supplied 1100 units of Completely Knocked Down (“CKD”) aluminium body kits for the Singaporean market.
2007
Due to the growing market demand for GML products, GML undertook a second expansion of its production site in Senai, Johor. This expansion includes the expansion and upgrade of various departments, office buildings, administration, warehouses, and production lines.
2008
Collaborated with Mercedes-Benz to deliver 134 aluminium bodied Single Deck buses for the Singaporean market
2009
In-house Tilt Test facility was built to ensure the stability of the buses produced by GML meets the standard of International Transportation Regulations.
2010
The supply of CKD body kits to Malaysia Prasarana’s Rapid Group reaches 1700 units with final assembly of the buses completed in other states outside Johor.
2010
Began collaboration with ST Engineering Land Systems. This collaboration has successfully delivered more than 1500 units including Single-deck, Double-deck and articulated buses for the Singaporean market to date.
2012
Began collaboration with Scania to deliver bus and coach CKD kits to Kenya.
2013
Collaborated with Scania and assembled 100 units of buses to supply for the Indian market.
2014
Collaborated with BYD to supply electric city buses for the BRT Sunway Line. These buses were recognised as the first electric city buses in Malaysia.
2015
A total of 110 aluminium CKD kits was delivered to Uzbekistan.
2016
Delivered 100 aluminium CKD kits to Mercedes-Benz for final assembly in Indonesia, and thereafter, these buses were deployed for the 2017 ASEAN Games.
2016
The Company was publicly listed in November on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange as Gemilang International Limited with stock code of 6163.
2017
Collaborated with Regal Motors Limited to deliver 60 MAN double-deck buses for Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Shuttle Bus service.
2017
Delivered fully electric school bus to the United States of America (“USA”) for the first time.
2018
Collaborated with MAN to supply 79 units of double-deck buses for the Dubai market.
2019
It is the 30th Anniversary of GML. The 12-acre manufacturing base with advanced production facilities has the capacity of producing up to 500 units of CBU buses and 1000 units of CKD and SKD bus body kits annually.
2020
Delivered 48 electric buses (including single-deck and double-deck) to Singapore.
2020
Cooperated with MAN to develop and deliver 50 units of 3-door, 2-staircase double-deck buses for Singapore market.
2021
The market demand for Electric Vehicles (“EV”) increased substantially, GML delivered more than 100 units of fully electric buses to the USA and Australia.
