JOHOR BAHRU, 4 November 2022 – Johor-based bus manufacturer Gemilang International Ltd (“Gemilang”) ramps up its ESG efforts – particularly the Social component - by supporting the Malaysian healthcare system through a blood donation campaign. The campaign, which witnessed a great response from the Gemilang family, had contributed a total of 80 packs of blood.
Organised by Gemilang Sports & Recreation Club (“GSRC”) in collaboration with Hospital Sultanah Aminah, the blood donation campaign was held at Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd premises in Johor Bahru.
The campaign was intended to raise awareness on the lack of blood supply in the healthcare system, especially considering that Malaysia needs 2,000 350ml to 450ml bags of blood a day for about 1,000 patients.
Gemilang Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Pang Chong Yong said: “I congratulate the committee for organising such an important event to bring awareness on the shortage of blood supply. The demand for blood supply is always constant, especially during festive seasons where there is a high incidence of accidents, which in turn could need more blood transfusions to take place.
While we might not be medical experts, but as a member of society, this is our way for supporting our healthcare system and as a way to give back to the community that has supported us through thick and thin. Collaborating with Hospital Sultanah Aminah, we hope the 80 packs of donated blood will be able to assist in giving a new life to those who need it the most.”
Gemilang expects to organise more society-driven events in the future to continue playing its part as a contributing member of the community it serves.
Gemilang GSRC President Amber Lee said: “We are expecting to have around two to three social events next year as part of our ESG agenda. The club, newly formed in July, was created to promote team bonding and foster good relationships within the Gemilang family.
Since July, the committee has organised regular sports activities on a weekly basis. We have also held team bonding sessions on a quarterly basis where we will have an inter-departmental friendly competition.”
At its core, GSRC strives to strengthen team bonding and cultivate an active and healthy lifestyle within the Gemilang community by having regular sports and recreational activities. Besides that, the club also encourages the Gemilang community to contribute to society through organising regular CSR activities.
